Choral Artist Internship

Orlando Sings, established in 2021, seeks up to two (2) interns interested in practical experience leading artistic-related aspects of a professional choral arts organization. We are looking for energetic pre-service (collegiate) or early-career choral conductors with high integrity, positive attitude, strong work ethic, the capacity to learn quickly, and high intrinsic motivation. Designed as a resume-building and service-learning opportunity, Artistic Interns will gain hands-on experience and engage in regular reflective practice and mentoring with Artistic and Executive Director Dr. Andrew Minear and other members of the Orlando Sings artistic staff.

The primary role of an Artistic Intern is to serve as a rehearsal and concert-day assistant for the Orlando Sings Symphonic Chorus. Artistic Interns carry out a variety of logistical and musical aspects of leading a large professional choral ensemble. There may also be additional opportunities to assist with professional chamber choir Solaria and the new Orlando Sings Senior Singers.

By the conclusion of the internship, we hope Choral Artist Interns will have achieved real objectives in service of the Orlando Sings mission, while gaining deeper understanding and skills for themselves.

The internship term is the full 2022-2023 season, though fall 2022 or spring 2023 semester-length terms may be negotiated depending on availability. Time commitment includes weekly rehearsals on Tuesday evenings, concerts, and additional rehearsals (e.g. dress rehearsals) as scheduled depending on concert schedule. Weekly hours may vary based on the performance schedule (typically 5 hours per week); weekend and evening work is required. Choral Artist Interns report to the Artistic and Executive Director.

Choral Artist Internships are unpaid positions. Upon successful completion of the internship term, participants will receive an Orlando Sings Certificate and a letter of recommendation from Dr. Andrew Minear suitable for job or graduate school applications.
